After putting an adaptation of 'Canción del mariachi' on my afro-latin house mix a couple weeks ago, I've been itching for an excuse to play the original alongside a few other choice tracks by Los Lobos. Since the 1988 release of the first track on this mix, I've found their 'traditional' music more appealing than their alternative rock music (which is still worth listening to). I was also looking for an excuse to play the final song on this mix, a beautiful version of the haunting 'La Llorona'. So today I present a collection of music that is either Mexican or Mexican-adjacent in origin, including some Texas Country songs telling stories from close to or across the border with Mexico.
