Harmonic mixing is a DJ technique where you transition between tracks that share compatible musical keys. Instead of clashing frequencies and dissonant overlaps, harmonic mixes create smooth, musical transitions that keep the energy flowing on the dance floor.
The secret weapon behind harmonic mixing is the Camelot wheel — a simplified system that maps all 24 musical keys onto a numbered circle. Keys labeled with the letter A are minor, B are major. Adjacent keys on the wheel (same number, or one step up/down) are always compatible.
HarmonicDrops teaches you this system through gameplay. Instead of memorizing charts, you learn by doing — placing blocks, hearing which mixes work, and building an intuition for key relationships.

Harmonic mixing is a DJ technique where you mix tracks with compatible musical keys to create smooth, consonant transitions. The Camelot wheel organizes all 24 keys into a circle where adjacent keys always sound good together.
The Camelot wheel is a simplified system for understanding key compatibility in music. It arranges 24 keys (12 numbers × 2 modes: A for minor, B for major) in a circle. Keys next to each other on the wheel are harmonically compatible.
Blocks labeled with Camelot keys fall into a 6-column grid. Place each block next to one with a compatible key to score points. Perfect Mixes (same key) score 1 point, Special Mixes like Energy Boost score 2, and Pro Mixes like Jaw's Mix score 5. Incompatible keys add dissonance — too much and the crowd leaves.
There are 8 mix types across 3 tiers. Basic (1pt): Perfect Mix, +1 Mix, -1 Mix. Special (2pt): Energy Boost, Scale Change, Diagonal Mix. Pro (5pt): Jaw's Mix, Mood Shifter.
